BREWING & STORING: Your brewed essiac tea must be refrigerated, since there are no additives or preservatives. Do not store brewed tea for more than two weeks, because the tea may spoil.
Store your tea in spring water gallon containers or glass bottles. Dark bottles are not necessary, as your refrigerator should be dark inside, therefore any exposure to light is neglible. Clean all containers thoroughly with hot water before using them to store your tea. A fresh batch of essiac tea should be prepared every 2 weeks.
The Famous 8 Herb Essiac Tea
Essiac Tea is famous because of it’s effectiveness. It has been around for nearly 100 years and there is a rich history behind it (below). This herbal tea that you brew yourself in large batches and then store in your refrigerator for up to two weeks, is composed of eight herbs including blessed thistle, burdock root, kelp, red clover, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, turkey rhubarb root, and watercress. Nurse Caisse developed several recipes during her lifetime including a less effective 4 herb remedy. By the time she passed away, she was solely using this 8 herb formula with her partner Dr. Charles Brusch, who the manufacturer of this recipe had a relationship with. This is the final formula settled on after all of the clinical trials were performed.
Four herb essiac was originally used with one of the herbs being injected with the other three being taken as a tea. The eight herb essiac (which is the formula Nurse Caisse thought was best at the time of her death) was designed to be most effective in fighting toxins in the body when taken orally as a tea.
